Radio Times editions featuring previous Doctor Who anniversary episodes: The Three Doctors (1972-73) and The Five Doctors (1983)

I have fond memories of watching The Five Doctors, though was sad that Tom Baker refused to take part. As such, one of the waxworks from the Madame Tussauds Doctor Who Exhibition of 1980 was used as a replacement in the episode’s publicity photographs. Also shown is┬áRichard Hurndall as the First Doctor, replacing William Hartnell who died in 1975

Today is the 30th anniversary of the release of Poltergeist

Although officially attributed to Tobe Hooper, the film was clearly directed by Steven Spielberg. The photos above see him on set and with the child cast of both Poltergeist and ET (that was released a week later on the 11th June, 1982)

Originally awarded an X certificate in the UK, as a horror film it’s quite tame by today’s standards. Even so, it still remains a favourite of mine and influential to many films that followed. Most recently, Paranormal Activity 3 was a clear homage to Poltergeist - I lost count of the number of times it referenced the film
